I am having a serious 80's flashback thing going on. All I want to do is listen to the music that me and friends used to dance to until the early mornings and then go to Fatburger to eat at 6am
GOOD TIMES!!!
This is just a space where I will share some of my thoughts and post some announcements. If you stumble upon here and find something interesting and enlightening please feel free to comment...

Many Fabrics, One Quilt-National Queer Arts Festival

We continue our Juneteenth celebration with a tapestry of music, performance art, spoken word, dance, and poetry. Our quilt encompasses the many textiles of diversity reflecting our experiences as Same Gender Loving African Americans knitting our multiple identities into our Fabric of Brotherhood.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future.

Storytelling has long been a tradition in the African American community. In keeping with tradition we invite you to join us as we screen two dynamic films this Juneteenth for our Family Movie Night, “Brooklyn’s Bridge To Jordan” and “Black Aura On An Angel”. Also see previews of, “Mississippi Damned” and “Family”.
Brooklyn's Bridge To Jordan

Black Aura On An Angel
After a chance meeting, Angel is completely captivated by the beautiful, mysterious Phaedra and the two women soon fall madly in love. But as the relationship intensifies, Phaedra begins a downward spiral that drags the loving Angel with her.
Filmmakers Tina Mabry, Morgan R. Stiff, and Faith Trimel have all been invited for a Q&A session.

Medicine For Melancholy

Maybe I am being unfair but I didn't see Tyler Perry's "Madea Goes To Jail" but I thought of it as I watched, "Medicine For Melancholy".
My thoughts were, "why isn't this film getting the same kind of publicity and recognition?"
"Medicine For Melancholy" at it's core for me is a love story. A love story told on many different levels. It deals with race, gentrification, infidelity, and many other issues in a subtle and sensitive way that left me feeling fulfilled.
The acting was top notch and since the movie is a character driven piece it was instrumental in moving the story forward. The feel of the movie being shot mostly in black and white tinged at first seems like a trick but it's apt in letting the story of these two people unfold.
I told a friend it's as if the movie oozed inside of me and permeated to the bone marrow. That's how deeply I felt it.
I am new to the bay area but seeing parts of San Francisco laid out like a tapestry was magical. I wanted to attend a screening that featured the writer/director Barry Jenkins but didn't get a chance to make it. I am very much looking forward to what he will do next.
Medicine for Melancholy should definitely be on your "To Watch" list...

Flashback Thursday-"And What??!!??"
Okay, So I have gone bonkers for "RuPaul's Drag Race" I love the show, the performers, judges, challenges, Rupaul dressed as a man, guest judges, the Pit Crew (Whew!!), but most of all it's really and exploration on the art of drag. It's not for sissies contrary to popular belief.
Rupaul has remixed her classic, "Covergirl"
Here's A RuPaul Classic,
