Medicine For Melancholy

Maybe I am being unfair but I didn't see Tyler Perry's "Madea Goes To Jail" but I thought of it as I watched, "Medicine For Melancholy".

My thoughts were, "why isn't this film getting the same kind of publicity and recognition?"

"Medicine For Melancholy" at it's core for me is a love story. A love story told on many different levels. It deals with race, gentrification, infidelity, and many other issues in a subtle and sensitive way that left me feeling fulfilled.

The acting was top notch and since the movie is a character driven piece it was instrumental in moving the story forward. The feel of the movie being shot mostly in black and white tinged at first seems like a trick but it's apt in letting the story of these two people unfold.

I told a friend it's as if the movie oozed inside of me and permeated to the bone marrow. That's how deeply I felt it.

I am new to the bay area but seeing parts of San Francisco laid out like a tapestry was magical. I wanted to attend a screening that featured the writer/director Barry Jenkins but didn't get a chance to make it. I am very much looking forward to what he will do next.

Medicine for Melancholy should definitely be on your "To Watch" list...

Flashback Thursday-"And What??!!??"

Okay, So I have gone bonkers for "RuPaul's Drag Race" I love the show, the performers, judges, challenges, Rupaul dressed as a man, guest judges, the Pit Crew (Whew!!), but most of all it's really and exploration on the art of drag. It's not for sissies contrary to popular belief.

Rupaul has remixed her classic, "Covergirl"

Here's A RuPaul Classic,

In Memory of Terri Tinsley

My Sister, My Friend

Such a wonderful dear, loving, and generous spirit. She will be missed. We sang Alto together and shared many times away from church that I cherish.

Her work with Minority AIDS Project for Transgenders can not be measured. She was a loyal activist for transgender rights and opportunities.

Terri Tinsley...always classy ALL WAYS a lady...
