National Gay Blood Drive 07/08/16

On Friday, July 8 the Bay Area will celebrate National Gay Blood Drive (NGBD). Your encouraged to join us from 11:00am to 3:00pm, at one of our three locations:

FLAMES EATERY & BAR
88 S. 4th Street | Downtown San Jose

SAN FRANCISCO FINANCIAL DISTRICT
30 Mission Street | San Francisco

UC BERKELEY RECREATIONAL SPORTS FACILITY
2301 Bancroft Way | Berkeley

Each day, patients of Bay Area hospitals use over 600 pints of blood. There is a constant need for blood and donors are essential in replenishing the supply. The LGBTQ community would like to help replenish the nation’s blood supply, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration imposed a ban on blood donations from men who’ve had sex with men (MSM) in 1983.

In 2014 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it will end its lifetime ban against gay/bisexual male blood donors by a deferral period for MSM to one year since the last sexual contact.

On July 8th, ALL eligable blood donors throughout the Bay Area are asked to donate in support of donor quality. Gay and Bisexual men unable to donate will show their willingness to contribute by bringing allies to donate in their place. This effort will create MORE change but NEEDS your support! The blood collected will serve local Bay Area hospitals and patients in need. Every pint we collect will help save a life!

Thanks you to our supporters: Blood Centers of the Pacific, SalesForce OutForce, and Berkeley Free Clinic.
